When working on concepts in the early stages I mostly use pen and paper, for me its still the fastest way to keep up with the train of thought, even when it looks sh... first.
all the machines, helpers, apps, etc. are just tools (as the pen), they do not do the work. The brain and the hands are the most direct way. I still use the computer in later stages once it is needed, for exact dimensions, connections, production,...
